Here’s what those books never told you.
They were written for an average parent raising an average child, and neither of those people lives in your house. A method that ignores who you are, what you carry from your own childhood, and who your child actually is was never going to work.
The Integrated Parent starts from a different premise.
Every parent brings their own history, temperament, and triggers to the relationship. Every child arrives with their own wiring. When those two collide, it can be a seamless dance or a raucous WWE match, and no five-step method can tell you which one you’ll get.
What integration means.
To integrate means to bring all of it together: how you were parented, the temperament you were born with, the stage of development your child is actually in, the reasons this one kid pushes your buttons when the others don’t, and the reason you became a parent at all. When you can finally see the whole picture, you stop reacting and start understanding. That’s the work, and it changes everything downstream.
The Integrated Parent is reflective rather than prescriptive, and proactive rather than reactive. It’s the philosophy behind my therapy practice, my coaching, and my speaking. And soon, it will be a book: a guide for parents who are done renting other people’s methods and ready to build their own.
